Wade W. Nobles, Ph. D.

Founding Executive Director

Dr. Nobles is Professor Emeritus of Africana Studies and Black Psychology at San Francisco State University; a co-founder (and Past President) of the Association of Black Psychologists; and the Founding Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family, Life and Culture, Inc. He is the author of over one hundred (100) articles, chapters, research reports and books, including African Psychology: Toward its Reclamation, Reascension and Revitalization, Seeking the Sakhu: Foundational Writings in African Psychology, The Island of Memes: Haiti’s Unfinished Revolution. Since 1996, he has co-led “The Enyimnyam Project”, a unique and special study-development project designed to connect Africans from the Diaspora with Africans from the continent.

Lawford L. Goddard, Ph. D.

Co-Founder / Former Director of Education and Training

Dr. Goddard received a Ph.D., in Sociology from Stanford University in 1977. He along side Dr. Nobles, co-founded The Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family Life and Culture, Inc. He served as Director of Education and Training of over three decades. Retired tenured professor of Africana Studies and Black Psychology at San Francisco State University. He is holds the position of Chair on the National Convention Committee for the Association of Black Psychologist.

William E. Cavil, III, M.A.

Co-Founder / Former Director of Community Development

Mr. Cavil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, a Masters of Arts in social science and is a Doctoral Candidate at Western Institute for Social Research. Mr. Cavil has worked in the area of family research and development and has always been interested in our youth and has worked both as a professional and volunteer counselor for teen parents and juvenile offenders. Mr. Cavil is the co-founder of The Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family Life and Culture, Inc.'s signature H.A.W.K. Federation Male Development Program. His expertise has been the media impact and indoctrination and is one of the leading theoretical / behavioral scientist in the analysis of television and its effect on African-American people.
